Miro Tool Adds Formtek’s “Total System Control” Technology

Miro Tool and Manufacturing of Waukesha, WI., has completed installation of a 48” coil processing system from CWP Division of Formtek-Maine.

Miro Tool is a leading provider of stampings, metal fabrications, laser cutting, EDM services, tool design,  machining support, as well as special machinery and fixtures.

The new system feeds coil stock to Miro’s 1000 ton Verson press. Miro uses the press to run progressive tooling as well as in-house die try-out. Coil capacity is 48” width up to .156”thick, with increased capacity to full .250” thickness at 24”, processing from coils up to 20,000 lbs.

This is a conventional loop type design that allows maximum versatility in the types of tooling and material that can be processed with the highest quality results.

Here is a run down of the coil line components.

CWP SMXIIIHD-48SE4 Four Roll Servo Feed, providing twice the surface area contact with the material than conventional two-roll feeds. This allows the feed to run thin or sensitive material applications without distortion or marking. An automated pass line height adjustment system with integrated clamp-to-press feature, provides instant adjustment at the touch of a button.

CWP Model 48HDD7 Powered Straightener is built with 2.8" diameter work rolls that are on 3.25" centers. Much like a "leveler" design, back-up rolls support the work rolls. This allows a remarkable stock thickness range from .021" thick to .250" thick. The drive system is matched to the .250" thick capacity making it very heavy duty.

A hold-down peeler system provides hands-free threading of the material from the coil and through the straightener head. Consolidated operator controls provide the operator with full control of the threading process A touch screen at the control station provides graphical step-by-step instructions to insure that all threading functions are performed in the proper sequence.

A hydraulically operated coil end bender system with powered threading rolls is incorporated so that corrective bending of the coil’s leading and trailing edges is easy as pushing buttons.

CWP Model 6R-48 Stock Reel with 20,000lb capacity utilizes an automatic tension control braking system. This automatically reduces brake tension as the coil is depleted. Hydraulic expansion and inching drive further automate the coil loading and threading function.

CWP Model 20042CLC Coil Loading Car provides the operator with the ability to pre-stage the next coil to be processed, further reducing downtime. Handling coils weighing as much as four cars takes power and that is what the coil car provides. Coils can be accurately aligned and placed gently on the stock reel spindle without damage to the coil or the machinery.

Formtek’s “Total System Control” technology allows straightener roll position settings to be stored into job memory at the feed’s touch screen control interface, and then automatically set the straightener roll position upon recall of the job from memory.
